ANNOUNCING

National Poetry Month | April 2026

Freeport Folio is proud to partner with the Freeport Community Library and others to bring you a fantastic National Poetry Month. We are putting the final touches on a vibrant, month-long schedule which will include:

- The 2026 Freeport Community Poetry Competition judged by Colin Cheney. Winners will be featured on a
What Holds Us Together” Poetry Walk throughout Freeport April 1-30. Poems will also be selected by the Freeport Historical Society to be added to their permanent collection.

-Two poetry workshops (Lynne Schmidt, 2025 Maine Arts Fellow and Joseph Coleman, Poet and Registered Maine Guide) held at the welcoming library Sun Porch.

- A Community Poetry Celebration to celebrate poetry with Lynne Schmidt, Joseph Coleman and other local poets with Community Poems, Worshop Poets and Live Music.

- An Open Mic Poetry event with Featured Poet Maine Poet Laureate Betsy Sholl at the Bradley Room of the Freeport Community Center. The soon to be crowned Poetry Out Loud Champion of Maine will also be invited.

- A State of Maine National Poetry Grand Finale Event: never-been-done-before reading by ALL of the Maine Poets Laureate to be held in Freeport. A partnership of  Maine Arts Commission, the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance and Freeport Folio.
